In a smoothie, sage also tastes a treat, its savory almost-bite balances the sweetness of the pineapple and pear nicely. Pear, of course, is high in fiber and pineapple reduces inflammation with its high Bromelain content, speeding healing of wounds, injuries, or aching joints. Note there are many ornamental varieties of sage including a version coincidentally called “Pineapple Sage”. Any sage works here, but we used the common garden variety.
To your high-speed blender, add all ingredients at once and blend until a smooth frothy texture is achieved. Then add remaining ingredients, blend again until smoothie. We highly recommend drinking with a glass straw, better for the environment, and easier to get a thick smoothie through a straw. We use this brand: Hummingbird
- 2 cups water (iced)
- 2 cups fresh or frozen pineapple
- 1 pear, peeled
- 1 or 2 fresh leaves of sage. More can be added however the color will green up and taste may tend toward bitter, but we encourage you to experiment as sage is so healthy!
- OPTIONAL: Hemp Seeds and Chia Seeds for more protein
