Step 1:
Soak the dates for 5 minutes in just-boiled water. Pit and add to food processor. My recipe notes give you an option WITHOUT dates, using maple syrup and walnuts instead.

Add the rest of ingredients and process until combined.

Press the mixture into a parchment-lined loaf pan. Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave for the topping.
