strawberry water in a jar with a metal straw

Strawberry and lemon water, or strawberry lemon water, is easy to make with lemon slices and mint leaves, no sugar, and is a beautiful glowing red color. In 35 minutes, you'll have a drink that is refreshingly hydrating, flushes toxins, improves skin tone and even boosts metabolism.

jar of strawberry water with lemon on one side, strawberry on the other.

Strawberry and lemon water is an easy refreshing infused water drink to reach for on a hot summery day. Adding lemon and mint brings this detox water close to the flavor of an unsweetened strawberry aqua fresca. In fact, this strawberry lemon infused water is a fruit infused water with a sweet flavor but without any sugar. It is also terrifically beneficial, cutting sugar cravings, triggering metabolism, and supporting hydration. [source]

Like my watermelon juice, or my aloe vera juice, cucumber juice, apple cider vinegar drink, or my delicious beet juice recipe, strawberry lemon detox water is super simple to make. Just add everything to a jar of water and refrigerate. It is ready to drink in 30 minutes but if you can wait a few hours, it turns to a glorious pink color and has lots more flavor. Serve it at a summer picnic along with a fruit platter - learn how to make a fresh fruit platter here.

    Why You'll Love It

Strawberry and lemon water, also known as strawberry lemon infused water or strawberry lemon detox water, is a delicious way to boost your water intake. The drink is free of preservatives and artificial sweeteners.

Low in calories, no sugar. It is also low in calories, and tastes light and sweet, but is also cleansing and refreshing like my single serving lemonade. There is no sugar needed since strawberries add enough sweet flavor to the water.

Easy to make, 3 ingredients. And this healthy strawberry lemon infused water is easy to make with only 3 ingredients, some water, and refrigeration. You can even eat the fruit if you get to it before it becomes soggy.

    Strawberry Water Benefits

The list of benefits from drinking water infused with strawberries is long, largely because of the nutrition leached into the water from the fruit. [source] [source]. These benefits include:

    • Flushes toxins
    • Provides vitamin C
    • Boosts metabolism to help with weight loss
    • Sparks energy
    • Supports digestion
    • Reduces inflammation thus helps aching joints.
    • Reduces muscle fatigue during workouts
    • High in polyphenols, flavonoids that support general health.

    Key Ingredients

labeled ingredients for strawberry lemon water.
    • Strawberries. Sliced and hulled. Use organic fresh berries, not frozen.
    • Lemons. Sliced, peeled and pith removed. Use organic lemons and preferably seedless.
    • Mint. Use fresh leaves, not dried.
    • Fresh water. Use fresh filtered or bottled water. Sparkling water also works, or try my Sparkling Infused Water post with recipes.

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

    Recipe Variations

Strawberry Watermelon Water. Instead of lemon, add ¼ cup of chunked watermelon.

Strawberry Basil Water. Instead of mint, add 3 basil leaves.

Strawberry Cucumber Water. Instead of lemons, add ¼ cup slice English cucumber, not peeled.

Strawberry Ginger Water. Instead of mint leaves, add 1-inch of chopped fresh ginger root, peeled. Put the chopped ginger through a garlic press if possible to turn it into a pulp for a stronger flavor.

Strawberry Infused Water with Frozen Fruit. Fresh is always best but if you only have frozen fruits, you can still make infused water. Just let the fruits thaw in the refrigerator, and muddle them when you add them to the water to release more flavor. That means press them against the jar with the back of a spoon to squash them.

    Step by Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the strawberries and lemons. Scrub the strawberries gently to remove any dirt. Cut off any blemishes. Cut out the green hull or stem. Slice the strawberries into slices or quarters. Wash lemons well with soap and water, rinse and slice. Then cut off the peel, including the white pith.

Step 2: Add the ingredients to a glass or 16 ounce jar. And add water.

Step 3: Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes for some benefits, and 4 hours or more for full benefits and pink color.

Step 4: Enjoy the drink within 24 hours or pour into ice cube trays and freeze to be thawed later to drink. You can eat the fruit within that 24 hours and up until it becomes too soggy to enjoy.

    steps to make strawberry water.

    Storage

Refrigerate. You can leave the strawberry and lemon water with fruit in the jar in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. After that, remove the fruit so it doesn't decompose in your water. Strawberry lemon water without fruit can remain fresh in the refrigerator for 5 days.

Freeze. Pour the strawberry lemon water, minus the fruit, into ice cube trays to preserve the drink long term. Once the ice cubes are frozen, store them in freezer containers for up to 6 months. To thaw, place a few cubes in a glass in the refrigerator overnight, and you'll have strawberry water ready to drink in the morning.

Expert tip: You can refill the jar with fresh water (if you finished all the fruit water) three times in 24 hours before you should start replacing the fruits.

    Expert Tips

For best flavor and most pure water, choose organic fruits. Strawberries especially need to be organic because they are high on the list of fruits that tend to soak up pesticides. [source]

For a faster color and flavor infusion of your strawberry detox water, muddle or squash the fruits in the water with a spoon, pressing them against the sides of the jar. Also tear and rub the mint leaves before putting them in the water.

You will get some nutritional benefit from the water after it infuses for 30 minutes, but you'll get much more flavor and benefits if you infuse for at least 2 hours, and more so after 6 to 8 hours.

Refill the jar with fresh water three times within 24 hours if you finish the water and want to make more.

Remove the fruit after 24 hours so it doesn't decompose and ruin the flavor of your water.

Don't add sugar or you'll turn this ultra healthy water into a sweetened juice. If you prefer a sweeter drink, try my watermelon juice. It also has no sugar, but watermelon is naturally high in sugar.
