How to Make Fresh Sweet Potato Puree: Wash and pierce 1 large orange sweet potato. Wrap in a paper towel, and microwave for 5 minutes. (Careful, it will be hot!!) Cut it open, scoop the puree into a blender. Refrigerate the skins later to bake into crispy chips with olive oil and salt. Blend the puree adding a few tablespoons of milk until creamy. Measure out for the sweet potato brownie balls.

    Recipe Tips

    • Sweet Potato Tip: If using fresh sweet potatoes, blend the hot sweet potato meat into a puree before adding them to the bowl so it is lump-free.
    • Texture Adjustment: Add a little almond milk if the mixture feels crumbly, or more almond flour if too sticky.
    • Flavor Boost: A pinch of cinnamon or espresso powder or chili pepper enhances the chocolate flavor.
    • Extra Topping: Dust balls with cocoa powder, shredded coconut, or crushed nuts for a bakery-style look.

    Storage

    • Fridge: Keep in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
    • Freezer: Store in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature or in the fridge before enjoying.

    Variations

    • Nut-Free: Use oat flour and sunflower seed butter.
    • Protein Boost: Add 1 scoop of chocolate or vanilla protein powder and adjust with extra sweet potato or nut butter for texture.
    • Spiced Brownie Balls: Mix in ¼ teaspoon cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice for a warm twist.

    FAQS

Can I make these with canned pumpkin instead of sweet potato?

Yes! Pumpkin puree works well, though it may need a little extra maple syrup for sweetness.

Can I bake this sweet potato brownie balls batter?

No this brownie balls do not have baking soda to help it rise. Try my vegan brookies, chocolate date brownies or my oreo brownies instead.

Do I need a food processor?

A food processor makes the texture smooth, but you can mix by hand with mashed sweet potato if needed.

    Are these brownies sweet?

They’re mildly sweet from the sweet potato and maple syrup.
