What is a Gram?
To understand this gram to ounce conversion, it's probably useful to explain what a gram is. A gram, often shown in recipes as a small g, is used in the metric system to show weight. One gram is also 1000 milligrams (mg). Most recipes from countries other than the USA use grams for ingredients instead of cups. Grams are considered more exact and if you weight out your ingredients instead of measure them in scoops, your recipes are more likely to come out consistently.
What is an Ounce?
An ounce, written as oz in recipes, is a unit of measure for weight but also volume. The USA and other countries that follow the imperial system depend on it heavily.
How to Measure Dry Weight in Grams
The best way to measure dry weight in grams is by using a kitchen scale. Here is my favorite. To use it, place a container on the scale. Press "tare" to zero out or remove the weight of the container. The screen reader should say zero. Select your desired unit, grams in this case. Add your ingredients to the bowl until the screen reader reads the gram weight you are seeking.
