Ingredients for Oreo Brownie Balls

- Oreos. Or your favorite black and white sandwich cookie.
- Black cocoa. I used unsweetened black cocoa. Or use the lighter-in-color regular unsweetened cocoa or even cacao powder for more nutrition.
- Oat flour. Or almond flour for a richer flavor.
- Applesauce. For sweetening, structure and fudgy texture.
- Optional. You might need milk to soften texture, chocolate chips to melt for topping and salt and vanilla for flavor.
See the recipe card at the bottom for full information on ingredients and quantities.
How to Make Fresh Applesauce: Wash an apple - Gala or Fuji is best. Slice and add to a blender without the core. Process for a minute or until you have applesauce. You can add a tablespoon of water if needed to help blend but I never find it necessary if the apples are fresh.
Steps to Make Oreo Balls
For more detail, visit the complete and printable recipe at the bottom of this post, but here are general steps.
Prep: Either blend up a fresh apple - with skin, or use store-bought applesauce. If using prepared applesauce you might have to add more flour because store-bought applesauce has more liquid.

Step 1: Crush Oreos. Add ingredients to a bowl.

Step 2: Mix the Dough: Stir into a smooth, scoopable dough. If it’s too dry, add a teaspoon of milk at a time; if too wet, add more flour.

Step 3: Divide the batter into balls. Use a 2-tablespoon scoop.

Step 4: Freeze the balls if they seem sticky or loose, maybe 10 minutes. Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave for 1 minute. Cool for 2 minutes.

Step 5: Dip the balls into the cooled, melted chocolate. Refrigerate the balls until set about 5 minutes. Slice and enjoy!

- Oreo balls for Christmas. Sprinkle the balls with crushed cookies and Christmas or other holiday sprinkles.
- Pumpkin Oreo Balls. Instead of applesauce, use canned unsweetened pumpkin puree - not pumpkin pie puree. Taste-test and add a few tablespoon of maple syrup for sweetening.
- Peanut Butter Oreo Balls. Add 3 tablespoon of peanut butter to the mix. Depending how runny your peanut butter is, you might have to add more flour to create a rollable texture.
Recipe Tips
- Texture Adjustment: Add a little milk if the mixture feels crumbly, or more flour if too sticky.
- Blend a fresh apple with skin or use store-bought applesauce. Adjust for difference in liquid by adding milk or flour at the end.

- Extra Topping: Dust balls with cocoa powder as well as crushed cookies.
Storage
- Fridge: Keep in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
- Freezer: Store in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature or in the fridge before enjoying.
