🍫 Steps to Make Watermelon Milkshake
For more detail, visit the complete and printable recipe at the bottom of this post, but here are general steps.
Prep: Cut seedless watermelon into chunks. And freeze or use it in this smoothie fresh. Here is my post on how to freeze watermelon.

Step 1: Add all ingredients to a blender.

Step 2: Blend the milkshake for 1 minute. Don't over blend or it will get warm but enough so the chia seeds get broken down.

Step 3: Pour and enjoy right away!
💡 Tips for the Best Texture
- If you are using fresh watermelon, not frozen, use only ½ cup, add an additional 1 tablespoon of chia seeds, and definitely let the ingredients sit for 5 minutes before blending so the chia seeds can gel up and thicken the texture.
- Use canned coconut milk for a creamier texture.
- Before blending, let the mixture sit for 5 minutes to let the chia seeds gel for additional creamy texture.
- Use plant-based yogurt to avoid curdling with the lime juice. I use cashew or coconut yogurt.
❄️ Pro Tip or Storage Idea
Turn this shake into creamy popsicles! Just pour into molds and freeze overnight. You'll be making healthier popsicles than you can buy at the store.
FAQS
Totally! Yogurt, fruit, and chia create creaminess without the heaviness of traditional shakes.
It balances the flavors and brings out the sweetness naturally—just a pinch does the trick.
Coconut milk adds richness, but oat or almond milk also blend well for lighter versions.
es—but because watermelon has a high water content, it can sometimes separate when mixed with dairy. That’s why this recipe uses coconut milk and yogurt for a creamier result without curdling.
The acidic nature of watermelon and lime can cause traditional dairy to curdle. To avoid this, use plant-based milks or yogurt with stabilizers, or blend and drink immediately.
