    A thick banana smoothie is simple, energizing and creamy as a milkshake without yogurt, and blends in 3 minutes with just 2 ingredients. The perfect bedtime smoothie to help you sleep.

    This banana smoothie is as healthy as it is delicious. The creamy banana both sweetens, thickens and adds potassium and tryptophan which helps you sleep. The milk adds protein and a milkshake quality to this filling breakfast smoothie. Whether you want to stay full to assist in your weight loss plans, or if you want to boost your energy with extra protein, this is the smoothie to reach for.

    I don't often use banana in smoothies, but I have a few banana recipes, including my 2-ingredient banana milk, and my banana apple smoothie. Most of my smoothies are no banana smoothies such as peanut butter oatmeal smoothie, healthy chocolate smoothie and this healthy strawberry smoothie.

    Ingredients

    Banana. Don't freeze. And use a very ripe banana.

    Milk. Use mostly frozen milk cubes made in an ice cube tray. You can use any milk, but the creamier the milk, the creamier your smoothie. Creamiest milk is canned coconut milk, full fat. The coconut flavor is negligible, but oat milk, almond milk and cashew milk also work.

    Preparations: Add milk to ice cube trays and freeze at least 4 hours or overnight. If made ahead, store in freezer-safe bags for up to 3 months.

    Step 1: Add frozen milk ice cubes and a small amount of non-frozen milk to help it blend.

    Step 2: Peel 2 very ripe bananas. Slice and add to blender.

    Step 3: Blend until creamy, about 1 minute.

    Variations

    Chocolate Banana Smoothie. To the milk, stir in a teaspoon of maple syrup, and a tablespoon of cocoa powder before freezing it in ice cube trays.

    Banana Date Smoothie. Add 1 or 2 softened, pitted dates to add a caramel flavor.

    Cinnamon Oat Banana Smoothie. Add a teaspoon of cinnamon, and ¼ cup of rolled oats for a lovely spicy fall flavor.

    Add other fruits. Strawberries to make a banana strawberry smoothie; mango to make a mango banana smoothie. And kiwi, blueberries, and apple sometimes work also.

    How to store a banana smoothie?

    Drink the banana smoothie right away or store frozen in ice cube trays, and reblend after thawed. If you do refrigerate it, do so for no longer than 24 hours and it will need to be stirred.
