    Homemade Banana Milk (2 ingredients)

    Banana milk is a sweet, fresh milk that is low calorie, dairy free, nut free and vegan. It is easy to make with just bananas and water in a blender.

    Healthy banana milk is a delicious homemade milk, made with only 2 ingredients. This alternative to almond milk is low in calories, and one of the easiest dairy-free milks to make at home. Enjoy with a slice of my banana coffee cake.

    Like oat milk, this creamy banana milk, a traditional Korean drink, is easy to make in a blender. The base recipe has a creamy banana milk taste and no added sugar. You can add more flavor by adding cinnamon, vanilla, and salt. Drink banana milk straight or add it to smoothies such as my chocolate smoothie or my strawberry smoothie, which actually tastes like strawberry milk.

    Why You'll Love This

    • Banana milk is inexpensive and easy. The cost of making this milk is the cost of bananas, making it an inexpensive plant-based milks.
    • A low calorie, dairy free milk. One cup of this natural banana flavored milk is only 100 calories. It is also full of potassium, magnesium, and a ton of electrolytes. In fact, banana milk is a hangover remedy, just like my homemade electrolyte drink.
    • Clean ingredients. My healthy banana milk is made with a ripe banana and a cup of water.

    • Banana. Use a ripe banana, frozen or at room temperature. The riper it is, the sweeter your milk will be.
    • Water.
    • Optional flavors. You can include cinnamon, pure vanilla extract and salt.

    Step 1: Add bananas, water and any other choices to a blender.

    Step 2: Blend for 1 minute if the banana is frozen, and blend 30 seconds if the banana is room temperature. Serve immediately.

    Recipe Notes

    • Bananas are naturally sweet so you won't need a sweetener but if you want to add a date or maple syrup.
    • Don't expect this milk to have the thickness of a smoothie or milkshake - it will have the texture of any milk.
    • Bananas will oxidize into a brown color so you won't be able to store this milk long. I share storage tips below.

    Variations

    • Make a frozen banana split. Blend up banana milk and ¼ cup frozen pineapple, and ¼ cup frozen strawberries. Pour into a wide-mouthed jar, and freeze for 30 minutes or until soft serve texture. Top with whipped cream, drizzle with chocolate and add a cherry. Enjoy!
    • Banana peanut butter smoothie. Add 1 tablespoon of peanut butter to the banana milk and the optional ingredients including vanilla.
    • Vegan eggnog. To 1 cup of banana milk, add 1 teaspoon brown sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon nutmeg, and ⅛ teaspoon ground cinnamon.

    Storage

    • To keep banana milk from turning brown, you could add a teaspoon of lemon juice - acid prevents bananas from browning. You could also fill the container all the way to the top and cover it while refrigerated - this prevents oxidizing air from connecting with the milk.
    • Refrigerated. The banana milk can be stored for 1 day before it will turn tan and separate. Even after it discolors, it's edible refrigerated for up to 3 days - you can add it to smoothies if you don't want to drink it as milk.
    • Freeze. To save it long term, freeze it in ice cube trays.

    What is Korean banana milk?

    Korean Banana Milk is milk flavored with banana. It is popular in Korea after a govenment push to help the population eat healthier. The most popular brand sold in Korea is Binggrae who produces their own version of bottled banana milk.

    Is banana milk healthy?

    Banana milk is healthy when it is made with only bananas and water. Add processed powders such as Nestle's banana milk powder is not as healthy as it contains artificial sugars and additives.
